Peach & Pit 2012 Edition

In my family, we do “Peach and Pit” which is like high points and low points…so here is mine for 2012.

Peach_ I was extremely lucky this year and got to meet my most favorite celebrity, Melissa Rycroft. I met her in Brooklyn at her book signing on June 5th. It was honestly one of the best days of my life. She has tweeted me a bunch of times, and when I finally got to the table, she KNEW MY NAME! Yes, you read that right, when I got up to her, she said “Kayla?!” Ah, it was absolutely the best moment. In August, I had the privilege of meeting my favorite actor Paul Wesley. He is extremely handsome and I honestly don’t remember much besides his sweater was really soft..I think I blacked out from his gorgeousness. Watching babytooth graduate with a degree in nutritional science from Penn State in May was another highlight for me.I’m still so proud of her and we threw her amazing party! Another peach has been just becoming closer with some of my friends. Some friends became best friends this year, and I couldn’t be more happy with my social circle. My girlfriends are honestly my savior. Watching Zoey grow and become a huge part of my family is up there too. She is the just the sweetest little thing and always puts a smile on my face.

Pit_As many peach moments I had this year, I suffered the ultimate pit. If you know me personally, then you know exactly what I’m speaking of, but if not, basically for the past 5 and a half years I “put all my eggs in one basket” and started a life with someone to have them walk away in September. It still makes me incredibly sad to talk about or even think about. That’s one of the reasons I started this blog, I needed something fun, something new. And this is it. In the new year, I hope my heart really starts to mend.

The first 8 months of 2012 were great…the last 3, not so much, I did have some great times tho, but I’ve never been more happy to say CYA 2012! Hopefully, 2013 will bring more peaches than pits!

books on books on books.

I love to read. I got a nook a few years ago, and it really makes reading so easy. Instead of having to carry around a book with me, I just bring this cute little pink nook and have all my books (and the whole Barnes & Noble store) at my fingertips. I used to only really read chick-lit and teen novels, but I’ve branched out to crime novels and mysteries. My favorite series is ‘Confessions of a Shopaholic’ by Sophie Kinsella. She is my favorite author, I love her characters and the way she writes. I’ve recently downloaded ‘A State of Jane’ by Meredith Schorr and ‘Executive Privilege’ by Phillip Margolin, they couldn’t be two more different books if they tried, but I’m excited to fall into both of them. I think I enjoy reading so much cause it pulls you out of whatever you’re going through and puts you in somewhere else. And let’s face there are days when you want to be anywhere else, reading does that for me. I’ve always wanted to join or start a book club, my mom and I tend to read the same books so we tried to have one, but it always seems I read it faster than she does. Maybe we’ll try again in 2013. Looking back at all the books I read this year, here are some of my faves; ‘Fifty Shades of Grey’ by E.L. James was definitely my favorite series of the year (I liked books 1 and 2 more than 3.) I also enjoyed ‘Still Missing’ by Chevy Stevens. ‘The Perks of Being a Wallflower’ by Stephen Chbosky also tops my list. (I really enjoyed the movie as well.) I’ve always wanted to write a funny book about my job and all the cray cray customers I come in contact with..maybe one day. Xo

Three Obsessions…

1_ My new red Nintendo DSi and the game Professor Layton and the Last Specter. I’m not a big gamer (board gamer, yes…video gamer, not so much.) But anywho, I fell in love with the Professor Layton series years ago. It’s basically a story game that’s driven by a bunch of mini mysteries and the only way to figure them out is by doing puzzles. There’s word puzzles, number puzzles, just any kind of puzzles. I’ve been playing every chance I get, so fun!

2_The blanket babytooth got me for Xmas. #Ahohmygosh it’s so fluffy I’m gonna die. (Despicable Me, will always be an obsession. Always puts a smile on my face.) I put it under my down comforter and it seriously makes it hard to get up in the morning.

3_Raspberry Ginger Ale. This isn’t a new obsession tho. It’s just too good.

Back in action.

Phew, another Christmas has come and (thankfully) has gone. I swear I’ve eaten enough the past 3 days to feed a small country in Africa. Each year, I try to tell myself “only have things you get at this time of year” and then before you know it I’ve had seconds of Nona’s lasagna and 3 brownies. Oh well, next year, I’ll try again. It was a fun day, full of laughs, family, and food (ugh..!) The highlight had to be Skyping my Grandpa who lives in Florida this time of year. I haven’t seen him since October and I’ve missed his cute face! Another highlight, was babytooth and myself had on matching outfits (red pants are all the rage right now.) All and all it was a fabulous and tiring day. Now on to a new year, which has me thinking about resolutions..I always make ’em and wind up breaking them. So should I even attempt to make some..hmm I’m still on the fence. If I do end up going ahead and making some, have no fear, I’ll blog them here! Maybe that should be my first one, I should try to rhyme as often as I can…on second thought, maybe not. Until next time, Xo.
